Briefing Room · master brand foundation
This is the single canonical reference for the Hummingbird family – visual tokens and language rules in one place. The Hummingbird shell is the spine every page inherits. Hummingbird OS and Systems Drag Index are registers the shell switches into, invoked per-page through the brand field. Everything the Briefing Room build references – palette, type, naming, voice – resolves here.
The parent palette is deliberately small. The master brand needs high-recognition tokens and the discipline not to add more. No Signal Teal here – teal is product territory.
Hummingbird
Warm, considered, quietly ambitious. The corporate brand carries the warmth so the products can carry the discipline. Green signals the brand, never the system state.
Hummingbird OS and Systems Drag Index both invoke through the brand field, but they are not the same register. Hummingbird OS is the calm product surface (Signal Teal on Paper-dark). Systems Drag Index is the diagnostic – its own Channel Stack mark, its own severity scale (teal → gold → ember), its own voice. Each is shown as the shell switching mode: same type discipline, different canvas, different job.

The Channel Stack
Five driver bars measured against a single Signal Teal alignment rail. The bars overflowing past the rail are the load the people are absorbing. Reduces to its structural side at favicon size.
Severity scale – teal → gold → ember, no red
Moderate is Neutral Gold, not amber – a state, not a warning light. Tier labels are locked: Low / Moderate / High / Severe drag. Thresholds (30/60/90) may recalibrate post-launch; the four labels never change. Critical, Minimal, Heavy, Average, Significant are all banned.
A neutral-charcoal palette is retained in the guidelines as a documented option, not in active use. The paid Systems Drag Analysis stays on Paper navy; structure carries the "serious document" distinction, so a separate palette isn't needed.
The score names the load. The tier sets the frame. The reader is the only character. The reader has not failed. The diagnosis names the system, never the operator – felt experience as the headline, framework as quiet eyebrow.
Archivo Narrow Semibold for Hummingbird. For Hummingbird OS, the weight contrast between see (Regular) and RP (Semibold) is the identifying feature – preserved at every size. ™ at ~32% superscript on first mention.
One stack across all three registers. Hummingbird OS and Systems Drag Index inherit the family discipline; they don't carry their own typefaces. Italics are never used – emphasis comes from weight, colour, or restraint.
Mono is locked to IBM Plex Mono (the Systems Drag Index report spec's choice; resolves the earlier Commit Mono / JetBrains question). Production fonts are self-hosted – Archivo Narrow, Inter, and IBM Plex Mono ship in the repo's font directory. The Google Fonts CDN link in this preview is a convenience only; the auth-gated Briefing Room serves fonts locally.
No co-equal lockups. Brands sit at different levels and the visuals say so. The endorsement line reads "a product of Hummingbird" – title case, lowercase article, never abbreviated, never all caps. It appears only where the speaker is not already obvious: product and instrument surfaces. Hummingbird-register surfaces do not endorse themselves.

The Systems Drag product line is three named tiers. Each names a different thing; they are not interchangeable. ™ on first customer-facing reference.
SDI – scope rule
"SDI" refers only to the score. It names the reader's result, never the framework, the documents, or the company. Permitted bare in public where the score is the referent, with "Systems Drag Index" spelled out nearby. SDI never carries ™ – it is the informal score reference, not a trademarked mark.
"Every business has an SDI." · "Your SDI result: High – the cost your systems quietly carry."
This supersedes the earlier rule that SDI was internal-only and never appeared in public copy. Internal uses (logs, tracking keys) keep the acronym freely. Never: "Hummingbird Technologies", "Founder System Drag" (dead), "Hummingbird OS / Seerp / HUMMINGBIRD OS", "SDI™".
Each brand has its own voice. They share a sensibility – typographic discipline, refusal to perform, calm authority – and diverge where the job differs. The voice is consistent across every surface a given brand owns.
Hummingbird
corporate · warm, considered
Quietly ambitious. Allowed to be empathic. First person plural for company statements. Carries the warmth so the products can carry the discipline.
Founders shouldn't have to choose between a business that runs and a life worth living.
Systems Drag Index
diagnostic · measured, unflinching
Names what's true without softening. The diagnosis is of systems, never the founder. The reader is the only character; the reader has not failed. Felt experience is the headline, framework is the quiet eyebrow.
The score is the same. The cause – and the solution – are completely different.
Hummingbird OS
product · calm, capable
System calm even when the work isn't. Hummingbird OS is the active subject of its own actions; the user is the active decider. Passive is allowed when calmer. No "AI" in user-visible text.
Hummingbird OS flagged 3 items overnight. Two are time-sensitive.
Bound by one cross-brand principle: never by comparison. Name what's true on its own terms, never by reference to what other tools, companies, or categories are not.
Load-bearing lines, reproduced verbatim wherever they appear. Never paraphrased.
Hummingbird mission
Freedom to own. Power to thrive.
Systems Drag tagline
Make the invisible visible.
Company one-liner
Building infrastructure for independent businesses.
Operating philosophy
Technology should give humans more time, not less.
Shape of the load
Weight is not the problem. Shape is.
Founder principle
Clarity is a form of care.
Mechanical rules that apply to every word the family publishes, in product and out.
Dashes
En dash, not em dash. Use – with spaces, never –. Applies family-wide from this revision.
Type
No italics. Anywhere. Emphasis from weight, colour, or restraint.
Punctuation
No exclamation points. Anywhere in product or brand surfaces.
Surfaces
No emojis. Product, marketing, social, email.
Naming
"Hummingbird" is the brand. "Hummingbird Tech Group Pty Ltd" is the registered entity and appears only in legal instruments, contracts, filings and lines carrying the ABN or ACN. The mark travels on first reference, as with Systems Drag Index™. Title case only, never all caps, anywhere.
Trademarks
Hummingbird OS and Systems Drag Index™ always carry ™ on customer-facing first reference. SDI never does – it's the informal score reference, not a mark. Systems Drag Summary™ and Systems Drag Analysis™ also carry ™.
Endorsement
Line: "a product of Hummingbird" – title case, lowercase article, never abbreviated. Carried on product and instrument surfaces only. A Hummingbird-register surface is already home and does not endorse itself.
Voice
No "AI" in user-visible product text. The system is the active subject; AI is implicit.
Positioning
Never by comparison, and never silver-bullet framing. Drag is a leverage point, not the answer to everything.
These govern how the registers relate, not how copy reads. Restraint is the brand quality – when in doubt, remove rather than add.
Hierarchy
No co-equal lockups. Brands sit at different levels of the architecture; the visuals say so.
Colour
No red, family-wide. Severity escalates through the Ember scale (Alert → Severe), never a separate red.
Shell
Registers don't fracture the shell. The brand field switches canvas and voice per page; the Hummingbird spine holds.
Governance
The schema is upstream. Where a built surface disagrees with this foundation, the surface is what changes.
